“Sounds like… he’s been a good influence on you?” she asked cautiously. “Still with tour reputation, can I expect to be attacked at some point or might we be able to appeal to your better nature and come to some agreement?”

“Nah, dont worry about me Dearie, Im as harmless as a wasp.” She winked.

“Now what sort of agreement is this? Will i be interested?”

“Who knows? I’m just thinking it might be nice to create a situation in which you’re not bloody inclined to either kill me or hand me over to the Daleks. Much as I’m into observing them, I’d rather keep a safe distance… for once.”

The Artist kept her paintbrush raised defensively, watching Missy all the time. She wouldn’t let her make a single move out of sight until this was sorted.

“So the question is, is there any way I can be useful to you so that might happen?”

“Probably not… I’m trying to turn over a new leaf you see, so I’m making sure to not start too much chaos.” She hummed.

“Tho… You could become my companion.
The doctor has so many different pets and they all expire rather quickly… Poor thing, probably not feeding them properly.” Missy joked.

“You on the other hand… as you are a TimeLady, won’t die, just change… that’s useful… Less tidying up that way.”

Missy chuckled as if she was both humouring him and not believing him.
“No you are not, The Doctor is a Scottish man with angry eyebrows. You, sir, are not Scottish nor do you have angry eyebrows.” She pointed out leaning on her umbrella… This was going to be fun.

The frown on his face became more obvious. “I am The Doctor. As you know of The Doctor, I am guessing you travel with him. We change the way we look so that is how he looks different now.” The Doctor told her. He watched her. “Who are you?”

“What? How the hell do you do that? So what? you are one person one minute and another the next?” she asked in bewilderment.
Missy was a great actress and she loved it.

“Im Missy and yes i travel with him.”

Missy, loved messing with the doctor.
So what to do when she meets a past version, who is completely clueless to who you were? Pretends to be a companion and refuses to believe that he is the Doctor – that’s what.

“Scuse me, Hello, yes hi. I’m looking for someone called the Doctor, you haven’t seen a man who looks 50 in age, has a black coat with red lining and Poofy grey hair… or better yet, perhaps a blue box that says police on it..?”

The Doctor hadn’t long lost Rose, and Donna had gone back home. After saving the planet with her that Christmas, she decided that she didn’t want to travel with him. That left him traveling around by himself.  He didn’t like doing that but he would rather travel alone and not lose someone else.

He had set the co-ordinates and the TARDIS soon landed on Earth, as for what year, he had no idea.. He didn’t really take much notice where on Earth he was either. He grabbed his coat and headed outside. He hadn’t been walking for that long when he heard someone talking to him. He was about to say hi when he heard who she was asking for. He frowned. None of his previous incarnations dressed like that, so he assumed it was a later one of himself. “I’m The Doctor.”

Missy chuckled as if she was both humouring him and not believing him.
“No you are not, The Doctor is a Scottish man with angry eyebrows. You, sir, are not Scottish nor do you have angry eyebrows.” She pointed out leaning on her umbrella… This was going to be fun.

Missy was glad he couldn’t see how her face softened.
A bleeding heart, that’s what he was… but she hoped he would do the same for her one day as well.

She moved over and took his hand, Squeezing it gently, hoping to get across that she wouldn’t leave him, she wouldn’t abandon him, not like this.

“Would you like some help with those glasses dear?” was all she asked.
She didn’t want to humiliate him or have him ask her to do it.
She would ask him first so he didn’t have to.

The Doctor held onto Missy’s hand, using it to guide himself towards her. Once he was close enough, he relaxed a little bit. At least now he could sense her presence even if he couldn’t see her.

“You can take the glasses off if you don’t want them on me, but…I thought you might not want to see my eyes moving and not aiming in the right place. They hide that at least. I’ve been trying to link them to my optic nerve, but I haven’t managed it yet. Not so easy when you can’t see what you’re doing. If you think you can do that, then I’d appreciate the help.”

“Shouldn’t take me more than a few minutes.” She reassured him.

Missy leant against the frame and placed the hand she was holding on her shoulder so that he still knew where she was, Before gently taking the glasses off of his face.

“What happened to your other sonic?” She asked in curiosity, fiddling with the device and regulating the settings.

Missy blinked.
He couldn’t look at her?

“What in the 7 Hells of Gallifrey did you do?” She half exclaimed.
“Did you get sentimental again? You did, didn’t you? and now look where that’s gotten you.”

Missy wasn’t trying to be mean or cruel, it was just that, he always did this, put others before himself, tries to save the little humans at the cost of his life.
The TimeLady started to pace in front of the Piano, wishing he would lock the vault and let the shields down already.

“You are lucky, Very lucky you only lost your sight this time..” She growled under her breath. She would slap him if she could… He probably left the shields up exactly because of that.

“I saved someone’s life. That’s what matters.” He hadn’t figured out how to calibrate the sonic sunglasses with his brain yet, so he couldn’t use them to navigate. The reality of having to reach out and move forward slowly so he wouldn’t walk into him was crushing. The Doctor felt like there was a weight sitting on his chest, burning his face with embarrassment and the back of his mind with shame. He took another few steps, one hand outstretched towards where he thought the switch was. In actual fact, he was a little too far to the right.

“I don’t feel very lucky right now.” He moved forward again, his hand touching the shield. The Doctor flinched in surprise and pain, pulling his hand back quickly to his chest. That shame that had already been settled in his mind grew stronger, and he started to get frustrated. Not with Missy, not with his lack of sight in particular, but with himself and his inability to adapt to this.

“But at what cost? What if next time saving them makes you regenerate? Or worse yet kills you stone dead?” She asked rhetorically in frustration.

Missy sat on the bench and watched him.
She didn’t say anything, no teasing would be beyond cruel and she would have gutted anyone who did that.

“No, I Don’t think you would…” She sighed.
“It’s a little to the right…” She told him gently.

She wasn’t going to make it harder for him, not now…
She decided then and there to make his life easier and just cooperate.
He deserved that much.

@yourbestfriendmissy liked the starter call!

“I would look at you if I could.” Vague, and hinting towards what he really meant to say, but not entirely obvious. How did ordinary people approach people they cared about to tell them they were blind? Well – they probably wouldn’t need to. Their friends would know already. But the Doctor didn’t work like that, he didn’t want it to be like that. He didn’t want to be helped along the way – he wanted to run away from his problems and deny and ignore and cover his ears until it was just impossible to do so any more. But he knew, and could admit to himself with regret, that there was no way he’d be able to hide his blindness from Missy. Not when she wanted him to look at her and he couldn’t even judge exactly where her eyes were to fake the eye contact.

Missy blinked.

@purakaumaha

Seeing the TARDIS Missy was a little bit more than surprised.
She hadn’t been tracking it, nor had she thought that she would ever see it again.

So what did she decide to do?
Stand and watch it.
The doctor would either, spot her there watching the TARDIS, come out or come back. Either way, she would catch his attention some how.

Missy nodded.
“Okay, meat dumpling and banana bread for desert, it is then.”
The TimeLady called over the waiter and ordered for him, ordering another cup of tea for herself with a chocolate cake.

He finally got the sandwich down and drank a bit more of his tea, “Thank you,” the Doctor ran a hand idly through his hair, “Ever since Donna…” he sighed, grabbing the cup again. How could he talk about Donna to Missy? It wasn’t right…

“Sorry ‘bout before. It’s hard to take in that you’re…here…and you’re…good.”

She made a face.
“Can we… not actually use the word? I mean I’m getting there… but it still makes me cringe when someone says the word to describe me… perhaps in a year or two… when I get use to the fact that it’s actually happening…” she trailed off before shaking her head slightly.

“Donna is the ginger one, correct? I did a bit of research at one point spied a little to see who you traveled with… wanted to see why and what attracted you to these humans…” she hummed lightly.
“I liked her, she kept you in your place.” The Mistress smirked slightly.

“Okay, that’s fine with me. If that’s what will make you feel more comfortable then sure… all I want is to travel with my friend.”

“And for your information, I didn’t lock him in the vault and I travel by using my vortex manipulator.” Missy sat back in her seat and finished her tea.

The Doctor was still wary, taking another triangle carefully. He managed to eat that one without hindrance, “So…you got bored? That’s why you called me? What about my future self? The one you were with?” So many questions.

“Mhm, just that… we both know that when I’m bored I cause chaos… so, as I’m trying to be good, I decided to call you. And as for why *this* you… well, I’ve seen your future self practically everyday since the day I regenerated, I’ve never met your next self, the one after you… I just missed this regeneration of yours.”

“Won’t my future self be a little…I don’t know…worried that you aren’t with him? Or does he trust you this much already?” he reached out for a third slice, not realizing how hungry he had actually gotten before this point.

“Believe it or not, he does.” she told him seriously.
“Would you like me to order you something to eat? you seem hungry.” She asked taking the menu when she saw that he was practically eating all the sandwiches.

He hasn’t realized that he had crammed the last of the sandwiches into his mouth. The Doctor flushed a bit, mumbling something along the lines of an agreement. After leaving Donna, his self-care had gone down the drain.

“Do you want to look at the menu or should I just order you something? I mean I think they have banana bread here…” Missy asked holding the menu out to him.
