The Doctor swore softly under his breath as he staggered back and down to the floor in agony. He hadn’t seen it coming, only heard the gunfire and then the blinding pain.

The only comfort was that the pain was in a place that he knew he wouldn’t regenerate, but could still die of blood loss if he wasn’t patched up fast.

“I- i didn’t see it… Why do people- always insist– on using GUNS…” He pants out clutching his side.

Maybe, just maybe, if he hadn’t pulled the trigger, the Master might have let the guard live, just this once – if only to escape the Doctor’s lecture about the value of lives afterwards. But he had to go and shoot, and so his body hit the ground while Koschei caught the Doctor’s before it had a chance to, slowly lowering him down instead.

“Because they’re effective. Especially against someone who refuses to carry weapons,” he scolded. “How bad is it?”

“They- They shot through the side… or- or thats as far as i can tell…” He whimpered, almost curling up on himself.

“It HURTS…” He gasped out one hand clinging to the nearest piece of fabric that happened to be what ever Koschei was wearing.

bang! :)

He saw it before she did and then he blinked and his right shoulder was on fire…. He realised, there and then, he had shoved the Doctor out of the way and got in the way of the bullet.

Taking a shaky breath, he staggered, hand clutching his shoulder, the shock of what almost happened catching up with him and he suddenly found himself on his knees, shaking with adrenaline.
