The master hummed softly as he wrapped an arm around the petite woman’s waist and kissed the top of her head.
He loved moments like this.
They were always relaxing.
“Comfy?”
“Very,” the Doctor replies,
looking sleepier by the second, encouraged to close her eyes by the warmth of
his hold (better than any blanket).
Her hand strays to place rest on
top of his, smiling up at him contentedly. She, too, enjoys these little
perfect moments of near-domestic bliss – just wandering the cosmos in the
TARDIS, nothing to do, no chaos, nothing she is obliged to save. Just an
opportunity to relax with her Koschei
like this.
She pushes her face into his shirt,
a half-asleep sound escaping her.
“I love you, Koschei.” It’s
muffled, but audible all the same.
Oh gosh. She was so beautiful when half asleep. And the soft smile sent his hearts racing faster, not caring that she could hear them.
“Good.” He smiled back at her. He linked their fingers as he felt the feels warmth cacoon him and he melted when she says his favourite words.
“Love you too Theta, with both my hearts.” He breathed out, tightening his hold on her just a little bit more.
The master stares with wide eyes from his position on the ground. This woman who was oh so familiar yet a stranger at the same time – had pushed him out of the way.
The room was silent for a split second before it desolved into chaos, koschei being the loudest when he realised who she was.
“You IDIOT!” He screamed as Martha bloody Jones runs toward his Theta, obviously an older version, and presses on the bullet wound.
He was so tempted to tell her not to touch her, but resisted knowing it was needed.
“Why– WHY DIDN’T YOU JUST LET IT HIT ME!”
He ignores the confused expression of everyone in the room and staggered into a kneeling position so he could look (glare) at her.
His hands were still handcuffed so he couldn’t touch her… But that meant he couldn’t kill the bitch who did this either.
She groans as the woman presses
down on her bullet wound, a grimace contorting her lips.
“I don’t deny it,” she replies,
grimace becoming a tired smile, “’cause I couldn’t watch ya die,
Koschei – more selfish than ya give me credit for, me.”
Her eyes flicker to his
handcuff-bound wrists; she wants to undo them, but knows what he would do if
she did. She continues to smile under the force of his glare – he resents her for doing this, and
perhaps, so he should.
I’m sorry, she thinks of saying, but does she regret doing this?
He snarled at her anger plainly visible and manic. He looked up at the other Doctor in the room.
“GET THESE HANDCUFFS OFF ME! You KNOW she needs regeneration energy! And it can’t be yours! I’m not going to watch her regenerate right in front of me when I can dosomething about it!”
Martha was watching him warily, unsure what to make of this and looked up at her doctor.
“Regenerate? But who is she? Is she a timelord… or lady?”
The master stares with wide eyes from his position on the ground. This woman who was oh so familiar yet a stranger at the same time – had pushed him out of the way.
The room was silent for a split second before it desolved into chaos, koschei being the loudest when he realised who she was.

A
resounding BANG followed by two
unceremonious THUDS.
The
bang is the gun in the hands of the would-be assassin she had not noticed. The
first thud is the Master slumping into the road; the second is the Doctor,
dropping to her knees on the asphalt beside him.
Koschei
is FALLING, BLEEDING.
It’s
like she hears her own scream from deep underwater, while the shot is still
ringing in her ears, his name torn from her throat in a horrible, desperate
sound. “Koschei -!”
A CLICK registers with her, head snapping
around to see their assailant. So young, a Time Agent who should never have been there, gone rogue – with
his gun aimed at her head. Silently, she withdraws the sonic screwdriver from
her pocket, deadly calm. It almost slips from fingers already slick with her
best friend’s blood.
“I don’t
think ya want ta do that.”
Her
words’ effect is immediate, or at least the sight of the screwdriver is enough
to tell him who she IS and that he
needs to get out FAST. Rustling,
scrambling away through the trees and the foliage.
“I’m
here – I’m here -“ Tears blur her vision, stabbing at her eyes.
Her
regeneration is too NEW to do this,
she doesn’t have ENOUGH energy to
spare to do this, but she can’t bear to lose him even if only in one way so
soon after finding him again.
So she
places her hands on his leg as gently as she can and closes her eyes, willing
the golden sparks through her fingers.
There she was, his light in the blinding darkness. “Hey, n-no tears” he told her through the pain, forcing a lopsided smile onto his face.
He then spotted the gold and worry shot through him.
The master struggled to try and sit up as he started to protest. “The’- Theta, stop it. Stop. STOP.”
He reached out and weakly grabbed her arm, wanting, no, Needing her tostop!
“You- You cant! You don’t- don’t have enough…! J-just wrap it up and help me to the TARDIS… We can deal with it there…” he wheezed, forcing himself to stay calm.
That was the first thing that registered. Then it as the fact that he was flat on his back.
What in Others name had happened?
He felt dizzy and he slowly registered that there were hands on his upper leg, pressing down on it, causing him to cry out and the adrenaline made him focus again.
“Th- Theta?” he called out. He needed to know she was okay.
