I think about that line tony says to peter a lot in spiderman homecoming

like a lot . . cause there’s so much that tony did behind the scenes here that we will never know about. People have been telling Tony to drop this whole idea and Tonys obviously ignored them cause he has been rooting for peter from day one cause Tony is a futurist and he knows Peter’s special and has so much potential to be an amazing hero. And not only that but Tony’s probably been keeping SHIELD, the gov and the media off of peters back and just aHHHHHHHH
No doubt though it starts with the fact he finds out this guy catching cars and crooks in a shitty suit is a kid.
An actual kid.
Not like ‘kid’ being a twenty something like Wanda. No but a child who can’t even legally drive let alone be swinging around like Tarzan catching cars and dodging bullets. Which Tony and maybe Happy figure eh. Is an adult enough to make decisions. When the vigilante they watch go into a window come out a teenager that crawled out of his window and ran past their car chanting ‘I am late-.’
It probably hit Tony hard. He couldn’t help- no he probably needed to help this kid. Who went to a stem school- who wrote a paper on Stem cell research.
This kid though- he caught cars but never hurt another person- tony knows the strength to catch a car this child has restraint not to hurt or kill.
He needed to protect this kid- it was what he did- he protects the future and this kid? This kid is what tony could feel in his bones this was a gamble that was going to better the world.
He probably had a soft spot and made it with the kid in mind. Put a spider in it and everything. Was amazed when he got a sample of the webbing and it burned in him he needed to know how manufactured it….
Something in him hoped with pride it was this kid.
Peter top of his class- or well was before Spider-man was a thing. Was the kid born with these powers? Enhanced? Was it all technology(he laughed no no way that shitty sweater was anything close to tech).
He had measurements and an idea. But he could only go so far. He had Friday track the kid then delete all recording if there was ever a glimpse of his face (which was surprisingly rare). Shield had no info on the kid and never will. Police radars scrambled.
This kid needed a clean chance.
He didn’t plan on re-cruising the kid- just giving him the suit. A quick Spiel about not dying. Don’t do anything that he does but keep being a hero.
Then he had to bring the kid in for round up because… well the kid had skill. Rounding up and webbing down with this kids thing! He looking at it the kid barely did any damage. He just broke a few windows. Compared to the rest of the team.
Kid still got hurt.
Happy still told him this was a bad idea he shouldn’t be encouraging the kid.
But Tony did because this kid had his head and heart in the right place. He believed in this kid from the getgo. He looked over to see the kid messing with the video on his phone.
He couldn’t help but laugh. Who was this kid? This kid that quoted old moves and went toe to toe with super soldiers and growing men. All the whole quoting movies (- he later watched the video of the kid fighting the winter soldier- he caught his hand. Chirping how cool his arm was and twisting it Tony knew he said Cap could lay the kid flat but honestly. If the kid really wanted too and wasn’t as soft hearted he probably could have laid cap flat too)
He rooted for the kid.
Happy said he was crazy- Friday muttered it wasn’t a good idea- when Pepper caught wind she screamed- rhodey got pissed.
But he knew the kid was going places. He saw the future with this kid. This kid who loved science for the fact that it was science but he could help people- who at fourteen had a secret identity that he held close to his heart to protect the people he loved- who hid his powers instead of showing them off. Who restrained because he felt he should. Who was so much better…
Had to go lie to him, disobey orders, and almost die before he could get there and do all those amazing things Tony knew he was going to do.
Even as he flew away. Spider-suit in hand leaving the kid heart broken and sad.
Fuck he knew he was always going to root for that tiny kid in Queens who was going to help change the world.
Turns out? The kid was going to get there with or Without him and that was new. Especially since the kid never blamed him- still looked out for him when he had all reason not to- and thanked him happily for his old spider-suit after refusing to join the Avengers.
You know? Tony was always good with Gambling. He won and he lost. But he knew how to gamble.
But believeing in this kid? Just letting this kid know he had someone in his corner?
Avengers AU – If Tony was Peter’s biological father
Tony is super protective of his son. And Peter, inspired by his dad, becomes Spiderman anyway (his dad and his Uncle Rhodey figure him out in a second though).
“Really, kiddo?” Tony asks incredulously, even as he can’t quite keep the quiet laugh out of his voice. With an exasperated roll of eyes, he digs out a handful of candy for Peter just as he has done for the other kids who have stopped by the tower, despite Pepper’s attempts to suggest he only hand out a piece or two to each kid. What’s the point of having all this money if he can’t spoil a few kids at Halloween, after all?
“There’ll be more up in the penthouse later if you want to stop by,” he offers quietly. While everyone in the tower lobby probably recognises Peter as his intern, he intends on keeping the party later that evening to just those he considers family and close friends, and the kid is certainly part of that elite group. “Let your Aunt May know she’s invited too, of course. You guys can crash in one of the guest rooms, or Happy can drive you home after.”
Dropping the candy into Peter’s bag, he gives him a grin as he says, “Happy Halloween, kid.”
Peter’s eyes widen and he beams at the older man.
“Oh! wow! thanks Mr Stark!” He then quickly lowered his voice, realising how loud he had been.
“Ill be sure to tell Aunt May! I’m sure she would love to come with me… any particular time or should we just come over after i’m done?”
He was sure that he would just put his stash under his bed and then quickly change into his other ‘Costume’, when he got home –
a shirt that literally just says ‘Error 404 – costume not found’ with a glitched/pixelated arc reactor in the middle.
“Oh, I’m fine! Yeah I’m good. No anxiety or panic attacks today so you really don’t need to worry so much.” Peter smiled into the iPad camera.
He loved that they could still Skype while the other was away… and it seemed like they always wanted to check up on him.
“Anyways, how are you? How are things going? Any ideas when are you getting back?” He flops onto his bed, setting the plate with his sandwich in front of him.
I need Tony having issues with his arc reactor. Starters will range from annoying malfunctions to slight pain as it screws up every so often to near-death scenarios as it stops working.
